Indy Euphoria was sort of awful. There, I said it. The image above (photo by Damien Jay) depicts the show at the height of its attendance. I shan’t return to this event. Putting a positive spin on my net profit of -$46: Sacramento itself was actually kind of fun; I enjoyed spending quality time with cartoonist pals, and we had a good dinner followed by a good breakfast. So there’s that.
I didn’t buy many comics at the show (the goods for sale were dominated by stuff that people had cleaned out of their garages that morning), but Damien picked up the new Eschew #2 by Robert Sergel and I liked it a lot. It doesn’t seem to be on his website yet, but you may as well read what’s online and get what’s available here while you wait for the snow angels to update the store. I don’t know why this series and Robert Sergel aren’t catching more buzz! Or maybe they are and I am just not jacked in (possible but unlikely, as I have my finger on the pulse of today’s youth). Anyway, Eschew offers nice tidy art, nice dry humor, and nice dreary atmosphere. In return, I offer my full endorsement, whether or not that means anything to you.

I am still sorry I couldn’t participate in this posterior-numbing event. I can only imagine all the sardonic comments, the gallows humor and the cracking-wise that must have occurred.
You really blew it this time, Brian! Oh well, hopefully there’s still time to sign up for the Bakersfield Pewter Wizard Symposium next month. See you there!
Hello, my name is Anthony Leano and I run Indy Euphoria. I am sorry you had a awful experience at my show. It was a first time show with a near non existent attendance yes, but it was filled with talent and heart. There was a well established anime convention across town with a few thousand attendees that I had to compete with. Having a show 2 weeks after X-Mas was not my first choice but I had to book it in order to get the one day Indy Euphoria annual date I wanted in June at the convention center. I have several great improvements with my June 27 show. More panels, live music, guests, exhibitors, promotions, industry sponsors, free door promos and attendance to name a few. I have lowered exhibitor table fees and admission too. I will be giving out several free passes at various conventions and events. Since you shan’t return to this event but enjoyed spending time in Sacramento with fellow artists, let me know what I can do to change that aside from all the improvements to the show I listed. I will be happy to give you free admission passes for you and friends for the next show either way. This show is going to be around for years to come and will only get better. This is a medium that I truly love and I want to create a venue that can help expose what talents artist like yourself have. Feel free to contact me anytime. Thank you, Anthony Leano http://www.facebook.com/indyeuphoria
Thanks for your comment. I’m glad you’re making efforts to improve the show and I hope it all comes together a little better in June. That’s very kind of you to offer free admission passes, but between transportation, table, and hotel costs (in addition to the opportunity cost of having to hang out in Sacramento all weekend), it’s just not worth it for me to attend without a guarantee that attendance will be significant. I’ll look forward to positive reviews of the next show–best of luck to you!
